Trilogy of Existentialism, Nihilism, and Absurdism

2023-04-29

The trilogy of existentialism, nihilism, and absurdism represents three interconnected and complex philosophical movements that emerged in the 20th century. While each of these movements emphasizes different aspects of the human experience, they are all united by a common theme: the recognition of the ultimate meaninglessness and purposelessness of human existence.

My interest philosophy area

2023-04-28

Philosophy is a vast and complex subject, and on this page, I will focus on my preferred topics within the field.

Beliefs

  • Nihilism: The belief that life is inherently meaningless and that traditional values and beliefs are arbitrary and without foundation.
  • Existentialism: The belief that individuals must create their own values and meanings in life, as there is no inherent meaning or purpose to human existence.
  • Absurdism: The belief that the search for meaning in life is inherently futile, but that individuals must continue to search regardless of the ultimate futility of their search.

Life Philosophy

2023-04-28

I believe that the fundamental nature of human existence is one of meaninglessness and purposelessness. Life, in and of itself, lacks any inherent significance or value. Embracing this nihilistic perspective can be liberating in that it frees the individual from the constraints of external expectations and societal norms. However, it can also lead to feelings of despair and hopelessness, as the absence of any ultimate meaning can be unsettling. Jean-Paul Sartre’s quote ‘Man is a useless passion. It is meaningless that we live and it is meaningless that we die’ captures the essence of my philosophy. While I do not necessarily seek meaning in my life, I tend to follow my instincts and habits without any strict plans. This approach allows me to live in the moment and enjoy the journey rather than being overly focused on the destination.
